A tree fell but didn’t cause any damage

If a tree fell but didn’t damage any structures, you’ll most likely have to pay for tree removal yourself. Most homeowners insurance policies won’t cover the cost of removing debris if there was no structural damage.
However, if a tree falls due to a problem covered by your policy (like a windstorm, or weight of snow and ice), your policy might pay a certain amount to remove the debris if it blocks a driveway or handicap access ramp.
The amount covered for debris removal will vary depending on the policy. For example, we looked at a policy that covered up to $1,000 and another policy that will only pay up to $500. You’ll be responsible for any debris removal costs that exceed the amount specified by the policy.
If your homeowners insurance policy partially or completely excludes problems like windstorm damage, you can file a claim with your windstorm insurance. You may be responsible for paying a hurricane deductible if it was a named storm.
